How Do Great Achievements Occur in Business?

When I interact with other businesspeople the topic of “Success—how do you do it?” inevitably comes up. Success means different things to different people. For me it’s not just one big SUCCESS! It is an ongoing thing. Every step toward a named goal, anywhere in life, is a SUCCESS!

German writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe describes it well:

“It is not enough to take steps which may someday lead to a goal; each step must be itself a goal and a step likewise.”

One doesn’t have just one goal in life, there are many. And success is always goal-directed action. It doesn’t come when you have reached your goal, it is experienced every time you make a step towards a goal. Every step stably achieved brings you closer to the goal and is in itself a SUCCESS!

One can set many kinds of life goals—educational goals, career goals, monetary goals, ethical goals, creative goals, family goals, physical goals and more. When these are well-defined and attainable, it can become quite a game to work out how to achieve them and measure progress towards the goals. This is key because EACH SUCCESSFUL STEP TOWARDS A GOAL brings more and more confidence in one’s ability to reach the goal! If you count these accomplished steps as the successes they are, it energizes you and you can create within yourself motivation to keep going, do more and achieve more. It creates a very positive outlook and gives you the fuel to burn through any setbacks.

How does this work in business?

Great achievements are possible in business when employees are able to meet their personal goals as they help the company meet its goals. Effective management works to build an environment where personal and organizational goals are complementary.

To me, personal and organizational successes go hand in hand. When employees are able to meet their personal goals as they help the company meet its goals, the environment becomes positive and people stretch for excellence.

As an example of what I mean by this, CES employees and our Management Team pulled together recently and for the first time in the 20 year history of CES, we had 4 weeks in a row of rising production statistics! We helped more and more businesses with their energy decisions each week for 4 weeks in a row!

How did we do this?

The training we have at CES most definitely helps our employees strengthen their confidence in their ability to reach their personal goals and as you can see from the Success Story below, helps them accomplish steps towards their own life goals.
