CES Helps Young Athletes Improve Their Lives With Literacy and Supports United Nations Drug-Abuse Awareness and Education Efforts

Supporting Our Youth Is Something We Work On Each Day!

Consumer Energy Solutions works on projects we believe will provide real help to others. Especially activities that EDUCATE!

Our CES for a Drug Free World team in particular, seeks out and works with others who have the same aims. Oftentimes we find those partners in Law Enforcement of all levels and in various school and youth programs.

Each year, June 26th is the United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

“Efforts against illicit drugs must be connected to our work to promote opportunities through equitable and sustainable development. We must continually strive to make the weak and fragile stronger.” –Secretary-General Ban Ki-moo

To join this effort, many of our CES staff signed a pledge to be drug free and to help others do the same.

The following is from the United Nations webpage on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and explains the 2015 Theme: Lets Develop — Our Lives — Our Communities — Our Identities — Without Drugs:

By resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.

Let's Develop Our Lives, Our Communities, Our Identities Without DrugsThe end of the first century of drug control (it all started in Shanghai in 1909) coincided with the closing of the UNGASS decade (launched in 1998 by a General Assembly Special Session on Drugs). These anniversaries stimulated reflection on the effectiveness, and the limitations, of drug policy. The review resulted in the reaffirmation that illicit drugs continue to pose a health danger to humanity. That’s why drugs are, and should remain, controlled. With this sanction in mind, Member States confirmed unequivocal support for the UN Conventions that have established the world drug control system.

The General Assembly recognized that despite continued and increased efforts by the international community, the world drug problem continues to constitute a serious threat to public health, the safety and well-being of humanity, in particular young people, and the national security and sovereignty of States, and that it undermines socio-economic and political stability and sustainable development. It encouraged the Commission and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to continue their work on international drug control and urged all Governments to provide the fullest possible financial and political support to enable UNODC to continue, expand and strengthen its operational and technical cooperation activities, within its mandates.

Helping Children To Succeed Ensures Our Future.

Our CES sponsored Community Learning Center (CLC) is a place that helps them with a large spectrum of life skills and literacy improvement.

Recently a partnership was formed with CLC and some current and former NFL football players, to help young athletes achieve success.

Local Clearwater, Florida hero Leonard Johnson, cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers along with former Tampa Bay Buc, Jerry Wunsch, founder of the We Believe in Me Foundation, are working to get approximately 85 promising young athletes the education and mentoring needed to succeed in life.

Leonard Johnson received personal tutoring from the Community Learning Center when he was 12 years old! This tutoring was given to Leonard completely free of charge, due to the heroic efforts of the Community Learning Center.

To get the funding needed to provide all the needed tutoring, materials and support to these current athletes, a “Buccaneers Break Out for Kids!” event was held on June 14th at the Historic Fort Harrison Hotel. Many sponsors came together to have this remarkable event. But they were not alone! 10 NFL players of both current and retired statuses joined in with their support!

The evening was a huge success, attended by many distinguished guests from the world of education and the civic arena, as well as business leaders and hundreds of caring football fans!

Everyone enjoyed an amazing dinner and heard stories from the founders of this partnership. This summer many young men will receive personal tutoring and mentoring and will also be taught how to help others with the same skills, as part of their program!

We at CES are working hand-in-hand to make this effort a huge success.
